About Me

- I worked as a tour guide for two summers at the Umpqua River Lighthouse in Oregon. This opportunity enabled me to learn more about this lighthouse than any of the others I've seen. Although I have personally visited 302 lighthouses in the United States and three Provinces in Canada, the Umpqua River Lighthouse has special meaning for me.

Michigan - Holland Harbor South Pierhead Light
The Holland Harbor South Pierhead Lighthouse is located at Holland, MI. The original lighthouse here was built in 1872 and made of wood. It was replaced by this one in 1907 and named "Big Red". It marks the entrance to Lake Michigan and the Holland Harbor. I remember when I took this picture in 1998, although nothing to do with the sea or mariners, the lighthouse and boats positioned as they were reminded me of a mother hen with her chicks surrounding her. You may not understand that comment if you've not been on the farm.
